S O H N, Die Orsons, Jagwar Ma @ First We Take Berlin
For the premiere of the new Club- and Showcase Festival First We Take Berlin on September 4 and 5 names such as NYPC, Fenech Soler, London Grammar, Claire, Asbjørn and Marla Blumenblatt have been recently confirmed. Now the line-up is getting larger with acts such as S O H N, Die Orsons, Jagwar Ma, Charity Children, The/Das, Truls and many more.
The sound of multi-instrumentalist and producer S O H N combines analogue drum machines with synths. Inside a week of its release, the song “The Wheel” made it onto the BBC Radio 1 Playlist. Shortly afterwards remix requests followed from Lana Del Ray, among others. S O H N's unique, soulful voice will also enthral First We Take Berlin this autumn.
The four friends from Stuttgart named Die Orsons will rock the “German rap principle” with irony, imagination and a positive attitude. With their debut album “The Album” about love, rapping pigs and pedalo drive-bys, the four likeable Swabians have forged the way for a new generation of German rappers and are part of the CHIMPERATOR universe, to which Cro also belongs. They will surely also present Horst & Monika when, in September, they take the stage under the auspices of Island Records Showcase.
One of 2013’s go-getters is Jagwar Ma, a duo from Sidney. Jagwar Ma bring the spaced out, dub pop sound of the Baggy/Madchester times of the late 80s and early 90s into the present and with this year’s debut album “Howlin” have earned a lot of adulation from NME, Guardian, Drowned in Sound and The Quietus. Noel Gallagher himself could not hold back. As to the quality of their live sound, they will be at First We Take Berlin to convince you of it.
