With the new and free festival format First We Take The Streets, Berlin Music Week shows, on September 4 and 5, where the best, most accidental, quirkiest and often most surprising concerts and artists are to be found: namely, on the street. Participation is open to all artists who can take on the challenge of the street and don’t shy away from direct eye contact with the audience. Applications can now be made online right here and a jury will select performers for the main stage at the o2 World Spree Bar and the mobile spots along the Eastside Gallery.

On September 4 and 5, between Berlin Music Week’s conference and festival centre, the Postbahnhof, and East Side Gallery, everything will turn around musicians living in Berlin, street musicians and sound artists. Between 3pm and 8pm, large mats will lay ready on the streets to be used for concerts in lieu of traditional stages. All are welcome, from beatboxers to singer-songwriters, including electronic loop artists. First We Take The Streets is the new link between Berlin Music Week’s daytime programme, held at the Postbahnhof, where the local and international music industry meets, and First We Take Berlin, the evening club festival at which the hottest newcomers give it their all at just 20 clubs from around the Friedrichshain and Kreuzberg districts.

The o2 World Spree Bar is the pivotal point of the new festival. The main stage of First We Take The Streets is situated here and, along with good music, it offers late-summer refreshment for music fans, music professionals and tourists. Visitors to the o2 World Spree Bar can, moreover, enjoy a free Solarboat-Shuttle to Fluxbau, which is located directly opposite on the other side of the Spree, and where a few musical highlights await.

As curators for the main stage of First We Take The Streets, the Mighty Oaks, who started out as street musicians in the capital and are now being talked about internationally, are local heroes and a real coup for the festival. You can be sure that this collaboration with the Mighty Oaks will build some musical bridges over to the excellent evening programme of First We Take Berlin. A few surprises may also be reckoned with!

Under the auspices of the fifth Berlin Music Week, this new and free-of-charge festival format celebrates its premiere. The event was conceived and brought to life by Kulturprojekte Berlin, as producer of Berlin Music Week, in cooperation with o2 World, sponsors of the showcase festival First We Take Berlin, along with Flux FM, with the aim of providing a unique platform for new, aspiring musicians and artists.
